Laugh Your Way to Longevity

We all know how important it is to prioritise and care for our physical and emotional health. From working out, eating right and minimising stress whenever possible, there are a number of small steps we can take to feeling like the best versions of ourselves. But we bet you didn’t consider something as simple as laughter to be the missing piece.

With so much power to help us heal and renew, the ability to laugh easily and frequently can be an incredibly impactful tool. And best of all? It’s 100% free!

Research shows that in times of angst or distress, our coping abilities are determined by whether or not we view the event at hand as a challenge or a threat. Humour and optimism however, can give us a more lighthearted and realistic perspective, helping us see these difficult situations as opportunities for learning, personal growth and development instead. More than just a respite from pain and sadness, laughter and more importantly the feeling that comes with it, gives us the strength and courage to move forward no matter the circumstances.

So, how can you bring more laughter into your life?

It might sound silly; but just as you would for your exercise routine or work meetings, start by setting aside some time for all the activities and experiences that you know will be able to spark joy and bring laughter into your day. Maybe for you it’s watching a funny movie, playing nostalgic childhood games with your children or even inviting your family and friends to a comedy club or karaoke night (especially when you know they can’t sing ;)). No matter what you choose, prioritising this kind of fun should be just as important as incorporating any other healthy habits in your life.

Guess it’s true what they say, laughter really is the best medicine! So consider giving yourself time and space to laugh, even just a little bit, every single day.
