DLet’s kick it off with defining branding:

A lot of people misunderstand what branding is, assuming it is simply a logo or a set of colours, but it’s so much more than that. A brand is your business personality and ultimately , it's a customer's gut feeling about the product or service you or your company offers. A good brand should end up in your customer’s heads and hearts. It's fundamentally the way that people are going to identify with your business.

We believe it’s important to ask yourself, what do you want the personality of your business to be? Here are some key areas to consider when building a successful brand:

  1. Research your target audience and competitors

Think about who you are trying to appeal to with your product or service? Get specific, by trying to appeal to everyone, you will often end up appealing to no-one. Get up close and personal with your ‘ideal client’, perhaps even create an avatar, and try and get into the heads. Think about what other brands would your ideal client be attracted to and why? Where do they hang out online? What do they read? What do they watch? What do they like to do in their downtime? All these questions can give you a much greater insight into how to position your brand.

2. Get clear about your niche or USP

How you can help your ideal client should always be crystal clear to anyone viewing your business.. After identifying your ideal client, you need to communicate succinctly what your offering is. An easy way to do this is by filling in this positioning statement as it is relevant to your business: I/We help X (your ideal client demographic) to do Y (the unique problem you are helping them to solve)) by delivering Z (your niche product or service).

3. Start to develop a business personality.

To find your personality, try thinking of your business as a person and describe the specific characteristic traits they would have. Also think about what your core values are as a business.

4. Choose a business name and write a slogan

A slogan should always be short and catchy, this can be anything from staking your claim or something that speaks to your brand. A slogan should be written in the present tense and use simple yet interesting words. Think about a song lyric that sticks in your mind, this is the effect you are going for with your slogan.

5. Choose the look and feel of your brand

Colours not only define your brand's look but will attach a certain feeling to it. Looking into colour psychology is definitely worthwhile to understand how certain colours affect human behaviour. When it comes to fonts, try choose 2 fonts at most and stick to those, consistency in colours and fonts automatically makes your business appear more professional.

6. Design a logo

Your logo should be a symbol that represents your brand and its personality through the simplest image possible. Try considering every place the logo needs to appear from your website to social media accounts to make sure the Logo would be suitable for all platforms.
