You're Never Too Old to Have Fun!

In our hectic, modern day lives, many of us have become so focused on “grown-up” commitments and responsibilities that we never seem to have time for pure fun.

In our hectic, modern day lives, many of us have become so focused on “grown-up” commitments and responsibilities that we never seem to have time for pure fun.

Somewhere along the lines between being a child and becoming an adult, we stopped playing - and despite the common misconception, it’s not just for kids. By engaging in activities that fuel your imagination and creativity, you’re not only able to add more enjoyment to your life, but actually reap a ton of health benefits too!

So, now that we know why play is good for us, how can we actually incorporate it into our daily lives?

Put Down the Gadgets

There’s no point in stepping away from your computer at the office just to zone out in front of your TV… whatever you choose to do, make sure it encourages you to take a step back from the online world which we’ve all become so accustomed to filling our spare time with.

Borrow From Your Memories

As adults, we often tend to seek fun through novelty. But what if we started to reflect instead? Try asking yourself, what were your favourite ways to have fun when you were a child? And what current activities could bring you close to that same nostalgic feeling? If you liked arts & crafts, maybe you could take a pottery class or start baking. If you enjoyed playing sports, maybe you could join a running club or arrange a bowling or mini-golf day out with friends. Point is - play doesn’t necessarily have to involve something unknown, it can also include tapping back to something personal and fulfilling!

Make Room For Spontaneity

Let’s face it… there’s something innately whimsical about being spontaneous. Of course, not all of us have the luxury of endless free time in our already packed schedules. In that case, we suggest finding quick opportunities to play throughout your day. Whether it’s dancing in the kitchen while you make supper or belting out your favourite song on your drive home - you don’t always need to plan how you’re going to have fun, sometimes it’s just about doing something for yourself that’s in the moment.
